Louisiana Tech University (Louisiana Tech or LA Tech) is a public Tier 1 research university located in Ruston, Louisiana, approximately 70 miles east of Shreveport and 100 miles northwest of Monroe. Founded in 1894 as the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana, it has grown into a comprehensive university enrolling about 11,000 students (2024–2025) across five academic colleges: Engineering & Science (its historic flagship), Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and Applied & Natural Sciences.
The Bulldogs compete in Conference USA and play home football games at Joe Aillet Stadium (capacity 28,000+), with men’s and women’s basketball as well as women’s volleyball competing at the Thomas Assembly Center.
THE CHALLENGE
Under Conference USA’s ESPN deal, every member school must produce its own streaming broadcasts for seven major sports to deliver to the company’s digital streaming service. For Louisiana Tech, this meant producing over 80 home games across football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, softball, and baseball.
With no broadcast journalism program and no local production talent pool in Ruston, the university had been forced to bring in full broadcast trucks and crews from hundreds of miles away at considerable expense. Past attempts to bring production in-house had not been successful, and tight athletic budgets made the old model unsustainable.
LA Tech needed a production partner who could slash costs dramatically, eliminate travel chaos, and still deliver the polished, high-energy look and feel of a Power-5 broadcast every single game.

THE SOLUTION
GlobeStream’s REMI production was centered around an SRT backhaul between Louisiana Tech and GlobeStream’s Dallas area control rooms, delivering sub-30ms round trip time signal transmission latency. This enabled audio and video feeds to be seamlessly transmitted between our broadcast facility and the various venues and broadcast booths on campus at LA Tech. In addition, we also utilized SRT as our transmission protocol to ESPN using Haivision Makito encoders.
Our streamlined REMI approach enabled us to send a single field engineer on-site to setup equipment, and reduced our overall on-site crew to a our engineer, camera ops, and on-air talent.

THE RESULTS
Louisiana Tech was able to successfully deliver over 100+ live game broadcasts to ESPN+ during the 2023 - 2024 academic sports year, including both the Conference USA women’s soccer championships and baseball championships which were both hosted by Louisiana Tech this year. High-quality productions, compete with replay, award-winning play-by-play talent, and ESPN graphics were delivered on-budget with 100% on-air reliability.
